#51 Wine Spectator Top 100 of 2019
Llopart Rosé Brut has the Mediterranean red grape Monastrell as protagonist, which is grown organically at the family estate. This sparkling Brut, aged for more than 20 months on the lees, is described by Wine Spectator tasters as “elegant” with flavours of “nectarine and white cherry with pretty accents of ground ginger and pink grapefruit sorbet”.Only one sparkling ranks higher than Llopart Rosé Brut: a sparkling wine made by Roederer Estate in California.

Description

Tasting Notes:
Very bright cherry-pink color. Well-developed bubbles, constant and small in size. Fruity exuberant aroma dominated by a variety of forest fruits along with delicate tannins. An initially potent flavor with good structure and just the right degree of acidity that maintains a perfect balance throughout its prolonged lingering aftertaste.

About Winery:
No longer part of Cava, Llopart are a family winery producing top quality Spanish sparkling wine organically and in the traditional (Champagne) method. One of the nine ‘breakaway’ producers who have formed their own brand, Corpinnat, Llopart aimed to differentiate themselves from some of the low-quality sparkling wine allowed by Cava DO. While this presents an exciting new phase for the estate, the wines really are the star of the show. Beautifully acidic, with white-fleshed fruits and toasted nuts on the palate, they are delicate and creamy expressions of this woefully underrated Spanish wine. Plus with them being 100% certified organic, what’s not to like! The roots of Llopart can be traced all the way back to 1385, when Llopart ancestor Bernardus Leopardi was granted some vineyards in the Subirats region of Catalonia. And the importance of family is still strong today, with Pere Llopart keenly watching over their wines even in his 89th year.
