Critical Acclaim

James Suckling:

“Older school style on the nose with an array of ripe brambly fruits, and punchy oak, too. The palate has slightly tangy acid and a chewy finish. Drink now.”July – 2017

Description

Tasting Notes:
Very bright ruby colour. Ripe red fruit (strawberry, cherry) with a minty background and restrained wood notes (cocoa, pencil lead). A succulent medium-bodied red marked by the cool character of the vintage and with silky, crunchy red fruit. Tannins are firm so the wine has potential for ageing. This is not your standard Reserva: terroir stands clearly above the ageing process.

About the Winery:
The history of this unique winery begins in 1878, when a wine produced in a lost Rioja villagecalled Baños de Rioja won a prize in the wine competition at the Universal Exhibition of Paris. The red wine at issue was presented by Eugenia de Montijo, wife of Napoleon III, Empress of France and owner of a vineyard farm located in La Rioja.
